PNW transplant in CH. Eurovision, urbanism, (mono)skiing. EN/FR/ES/DE/MK
Love the intentionality of the article and underlying report in the language used to center those discriminated against (anti-Muslim) as well as the active expressions of racism vs passive “phobia”

Love that not only has Geneva reduced parking in the public right-of-way by over 13%in the last decade, but that the local news media is basically taking sides that it’s a good thing.

So cool to see cutting edge projects here in Geneva.
Last year, I toured a few circular sanitation systems designed/installed by aneco in various cooperatives in a few of Geneva’s ecodistricts. The system at Soubeyran was particularly interesting.

Not to mention that the Scottish tenements are generally individually owned flats, allowing for home ownership with a more affordable entry point and a lot smaller footprint than a standalone house.
4 story plus inhabited attic single stair tenements gets a massive amount of density

but the building regulations conforming height, building depth, the zero lot line conditions are what makes the neighborhood form so much better than the US anarchic sprawl.

Paris reduced the speed limit on its périphérique ring highway from 70 km/h to 50 km/h (44 to 31 mph) in October.

The first major impact? A significant reduction in noise in the surrounding areas, particularly at night and on weekends/holidays (orange line). www.bruitparif.fr/l-impact-aco...

Guy traded in his moped for 8 bikes: “(the moped) was practical, yes, but it was dangerous, solitary, noisy, and polluting” . While 8 is excessive, definitely prefer quiet e-bikes to loud scooters. And at least he admits he’s bobo 🤣

Honest question from a non-planner/architect: what would be necessary to feasibly build the more obvious solution of one building with 5 floors with a separate owner for each floor?
I'm glad Seattle is expanding LR3. It could mean we will get a lot more of these 5 floor townhome beasts.

Can’t wait to see what The Kolors will bring. Always fun music. And I can’t wait for the chaos that Achille Laura has in store for us.
🇮🇹 Carlo Conti has announced the 30 artists competing in the Big category of Sanremo 2025.

The line-up includes former Italian #Eurovision representatives Francesco Gabbani, Francesca Michielin and Massimo Ranieri, as well as Achille Lauro, who represented San Marino in 2022.

New definitions for “a yellow” in the Dictionary of the Academy Francaise. No mention of pejorative/racist/colonialist nature of term. And yet this is the government institution charged with the “improvement and promotion” of the French language.

Switzerland just blocked an expansion of their national highway system. Hoorah for turning the page on induced demand. Will hopefully lead to a swivel towards better train service 🤞🏼

Great to see a move to bring some semblance of sanity to the system. Whenever I travel via rail in the UK I always feel like I’m in Terry Gilliam’s Brazil. Am I going to have a massive fine for a technicality? Will the train service I want actually run? We’ll see!

Going to be a random hot take as a first post on blue sky but I’m convinced that open concept kitchens are garbage for anyone who actually cooks. Do I want my upholstery smelling like garlic every time I cook? No! Do I want my carpet retaining smells of when I burnt the bacon? No!
