Want to know why egg prices are soaring? It’s because U.S. egg industry sees record chicken deaths from bird flu outbreak. USDA data shows more than 20 million egg-laying chickens in the U.S. died last quarter because of H5N1 bird flu.

Trump is slipping farther and farther below 50%. He now leads by only 1.6%—and his vote advantage is under 2.5M. One of the narrower victories of the last 100 years of American politics, and any journalist or politico using the term mandate probably needs to retire from their profession immediately.

1. The difference so far (and for god's sake let's keep it that way) between X and Bluesky is not between right and left but between abuse and respect.
A good society is built on mutual respect. But what does this mean?

Poilievre's Conservative Party, per its members:

"Everybody is being watched. What we say, what we do, who we talk to. We're told not to fraternize with MPs from the other parties. And that's not normal.

Those who follow these rules are rewarded. Those who don't often have to suffer consequences."

#Bluesky traffic up by 500%, absolutely crushing Threads and X (twitter).

Millions are choosing the good place.

Traffic on Bluesky, an X competitor, is up 500% since the election. How will they handle the surge?
Unlike other social media sites, Bluesky allows users to create their own algorithm. The site does not have ads, nor harvest data for artificial intelligence training. But it is still very small and has an unproven business record.

For us terminally online political nerds, it became obvious over the summer that *something* was happening to Twitter. Even for those of us who limit replies and rarely engaged the For You feed.

Turns out, my suspicions were real and there’s a reason I’m no longer a Daily Active User.
1/ X's algorithm was changed in mid-July 2024 to systematically boost Republican-leaning accounts and Elon Musk's own account following his endorsement of Donald Trump, according to a newly released computational study of engagement from the Queensland University of Technology.⬇️

Bluesky is built to make social more like the Web again, so we will never suppress links. Link to your writing, your art, your personal site — this is the social internet, designed from the ground up to be open and interoperable.
Hard to describe as a journalist how grateful I am to have a text-based app that does not suppress hyperlinks. I don’t know if people realize exactly how hostile the corporate internet has gotten toward news.
