We are the Dirt Manifesto, a user led peer support group based at Windmill Community Gardens, Nottingham. We love being outside. We hate it when people take our safe outside spaces away from us. We are slowly working towards being a viable project.

This is my third year of hanging out in allotments and being connected to the seasons is so soothing to me.
There is always something to look forward to - the harvest, wild garlic season, watching new things grow, old things decay, burning it all down in a fire pit while we chat.

Fun Dirt Manifesto updates: we decided we did not want a management committee. Instead, people who want to be involved in the organising side can join the mycelium network. All members can attend mycelium network meetings if they want to have a say.

Grown, cooked and scoffed at the Dirt Manifesto plot. This was so very well worth waiting for!
A golden yellow corn cob run from the bottom left to top centre of the frame, slightly charred on a few kernels. Corn fork things are poked into either end and it's perched on a plate that has marvellous drawings of dinosaurs* on it *technically a Pterodactyl (and all other pterosaurs) aren't dinosaurs, but this isn't really the place for that.

Why be a user led group? Because when you are user led you can choose to hold meetings at the local dinosaur crazy golf. There need be no other reason.

Bonus mini Dirt Manifesto session today. We did a lot of weeding, tidying and watering. Our red sunflower is now our tallest sunflower of them all.

Today was a good day in the garden. Here are some flowery views from today.
Flowering Oregano fills the lower half of the screen, green and leafy with pale flowers. In the background, totally blurred and out of focus are three people, one of whom is lounging in a very loud stripey hammock. A close up of the face of a sunflower which has flower petals right in the middle of it. The surrounds of the frame are very bright yellow petals, as is the middle. The middle petals are surrounded by a moat of... I think they're pollen stems. But yellow wiggly bits against a darker brown. A red sunflower popped up! We thought all of these had failed because the seeds were really old. The red ringed flower is at the top 3rd of the frame, the petals are a little scruffy and uneven. The slightly hairy stem extends the rest of the way to the bottom of the frame, all against blurred miscellaneous greenery. I am told this is a marsh-mallow. Like the squidgy things you cook on a fire. It's living in the dried out pond. I think the lining has a hole. It's a pale pink circular, slightly conical flower with long green jagged leaves against an almost black background.

ALT Text person is back again with some photos taken when doing weekend watering. We didn't actually plan on growing bindweed, quite the opposite, but it does have pretty flowers.
The almost circular, white flower of a bindweed plant with some sort of bee (I do not know bees) on the lower half of the flower, side on facing right. The flower is very separated from the background which is just various shades of green but totally out of focus. A couple of vine bits are on the right of the frame. A bumble type bee from above, wings outstretched is jumping off the very pale flowers of a bean plant, both of which are on the left 3rd of the frame. The right two 3rds of the frame are just green soft splodges, totally out of focus. Three green tomatoes are visible in the middle of the frame, surrounded by the leaves of the plants, almost like peering into a nest. There are drops of water on leaves and tomatoes. Running top to bottom in the middle of the frame is a very bright yellow petal of a sunflower which is flopping a bit. Climbing up it is a bee, a smaller thinner bee, probably something like a honey bee. Its antennae are a bold dark contrast to the yellow. The background, out of focus, is the developing seeds of the sunflower which are dozens of tubular things with little flaps on them, opening like a maw. They are out of focus and many, and look slightly alien. The top left of the photo has more petals, so yellow and sunny that parts are almost white.

What a difference six weeks of sun makes!
A white person's hand is pressing soil into seedling trays. Cutting across the right of the shot, diagonally is a metal frame, the hands are reaching over it, tenderly poking the soil. Vertically from one of the trays is a label that probably reads "Courgettes, 26/5/25" but it's a bit out of focus. It's red on white. Trays keep going up the photo to the top and left. a white man's left hand holding a whopping courgette. It's curved and the top end, furthest away is probably big enough to count as a marrow. The vegetable is dark green with deep ridges running lengthways, and small white speckles. The background is a light brown woodchip.

All of a sudden, Dirt Manifesto manifested! Today was our first day on site without paying someone to be here with us. We had a lovely day clearing up for an event on Saturday and lazing in our hammocks. So proud of us 🥰
