Dr. Abeba Birhane is one of the foremost experts in the world on these topics. When she says tech capitalists are spinning unscientific tales to argue why their products shouldn't be regulated, believe her. She's not trying to make her first billion by screwing over the public. @abeba.bsky.social
flat out lies. these tech ceos take regulators and the masses for fools

I'm cheering @julieroginsky.bsky.social right now, saying she is furious about the Senate's "unconscionable" cave-in and that it's time for @schumer.senate.gov to go. She calls herself an establishment Democrat but says she is more aligned now with @sanders.senate.gov. Ditto here.

A promised vote on the ACA? See, they can’t include the ACA without having to bring the House back into session - and they’d have to swear in Grijalva. That’s what this is all about. Protecting the Epstein files.
Paywalled...here's the full text such as it is for now.

We'll see if Axios is full of shit again or not.

The Supreme Court was always going to swat away Kim Davis’ latest appeal, which did not even properly raise an attack on marriage equality.

But pay close attention to what the Republican-appointed justices get away with after today’s positive headlines fade. slate.com/news-and-pol...

Standing up to a tyrant - who is willing to impose pain as leverage to compel loyalty or acquiescence - is hard. You can convince yourself that yielding stops the pain and brings you back to "normal".

But there is no "normal". Submission emboldens the tyrant. The threat grows.

Jesus Christ, @kaine.senate.gov, getting a pinky promise to hold one single vote on ACA funding is not "a path toward fixing the health care mess" anymore than a lottery ticket is a "path toward fixing my personal finances"

Q: Will you assure House Democrats they'll get a vote on ACA subsidies by a date certain?

MIKE JOHNSON: Ah -- no. I'm not promising anyone anything.

Moderates are caving because the shutdown is uncomfortable, and the definition of being a moderate is not being willing to take a principled, uncomfortable stance on anything.

NYT: F.B.I. Director Is Said to Have Made a Pledge to Head of MI5, Then Broken It

By Adam Goldman

The head of MI5 asked the FBI for help. He asked Kash Patel to hold onto an FBI agent based in London who dealt with certain high-tech surveillance tools. OK says Patel! Nope.

Gobsmacking! Gift link!

You didn't get a vote. You got a "promise" of a vote. From a party who is disappearing nannies & gardeners and zip-tying children. A party who has flushed Due Process in America down the toilet. Who has subjugated its Congressional duties to an autocrat. That's what everybody sees, Tim.

This deal to reopen the government is fucking disgraceful.

Tens of millions will lose their healthcare. Trump will be emboldened.

This is exactly what’s wrong with Democratic Party leadership and why we need more people in Congress who will actually hold the line.
