RT from Ian Dickens, on X: ‘A Christmas Carol’ illustrator John Leech spent 3 months in Bonchurch in 1849. The pretty house he rented is now for sale at £825,000. In one of the bedrooms, Dickens successfully used his mesmerism skills after Leech suffered a head injury while swimming in rough seas.

Despite selling out our entire run in York, London sales for THE SIGNAL-MAN & THE TRIAL FOR MURDER are still a bit slow. We've got six showings between 31st October and 2nd November. A very classic Halloween treat, I'd argue - and in Charles Dickens's (probably definitely haunted) house!

No photos from this afternoon’s session as I was chairing (!), but it looks as if we’re about to hear a wonderful keynote lecture to round off Dickens Day 2025. Well done to all the speakers and organisers 👏👏👏

Ah, yes. A wonderful little pub in The Bayle; one of Folkestone’s hidden historic gems 💎
Here’s another #Dickens landmark I didn’t know about @dickensfellowhq.bsky.social The British Lion in Folkestone has a Dickens Room where I was told he wrote ‘Little Dorrit’ while he was staying for the summer at Albion Villas.

Copied from Ian Dickens’s post on X: Spotted in a Ventnor shop. The splendid quote from the letter Dickens posted in Shanklin to his wife, telling her he’d found the perfect place for their 1849 summer. The mugs are produced by Little Bear Pottery and sold from Ventnor’s Luchelle Boutique
