The whole point of democracy is so one person's derangement does not become everybody's problem. It's social hygiene. The fact the richest men in the West are a mix of grotty twelve year olds and deranged apocalypse fanatics is a problem, and we should be honest about it.

@alastaircampbell2.bsky.social by any chance were you walking near Mornington Crescent around lunchtime today? I could swear it was you but was too shy to stop you and ask, or else I'd have told you I'm a fan of yours and asked to shake your hand (which admittedly, may have been weird for you)!

Quote-posting for all the people who think AI slop is somehow transcendental (yes, I know, wasting my time, they're all true believers prostrating themselves before a hypothetical singularity)

Just one more model, bro, I swear, it will fix everything.

The FT has been consistently good on this stuff, the only outlet to really take coreweave seriously, had great reporting, probably my fav business outlet. The Altman oil piece by bryce elder is one of the most devastating things I've ever read

The Telegraph today carries a news story about someone paying £7.4 million for a handbag (Hello, Lady Bracknell!). And an opinion piece describing a wealth tax as a ‘moral abomination’. What a time to be alive.

I don't have much of a following but I found this to be an excellent read and want to signal boost it. Even though I felt 'seen' as a huge fan of Derren Brown who always took the time to explain how these cons work, but hadn't applied that critical eye to this topic. 🙂
Don't self-experiment with psychological hazards! I can't stress this enough!

One of the reasons why I wrote the original LLMentalist post two years ago (softwarecrisis.dev/letters/llme...) was I wanted people to understand that chatbots and the like are a psychological hazard.
