If you receive an illegal order, you have a duty to disobey.

This isn’t controversial.

A President calling for the execution of anyone who reminds service members of this oath is showing us why the duty to disobey illegal orders is so important in the first place.

The great @timothysnyder.bsky.social explains why this new Trump-backed Ukraine plan sells out Ukraine, Europe, and democracies across the world. Take a few minutes and watch.

It is hard to put into words how much damage Trump is doing to our own country, how unfit and malevolent he is.
We have a US administration trying to bully Ukrainians into accepting Russia’s proposal that their sovereignty be undone. Aside from the naked injustice of this, there are five basic practical reasons why it would make the world far more dangerous.

To put a finer point on it: An "illegal order" is one that violates their oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States.

If you think that upholding the Constitution = sedition, well...you do the math.
Them: “You don’t have to obey illegal orders.”

Him: “That’s seditious! They should be hanged!”

Definitely not beating the giving-illegal-orders allegations.

Here is Trump's full 28 point plan for Ukraine. It would destroy Ukraine as a sovereign state and leave it helpless to face a Russian attack in the future. It would also give Putin full vindication and immunity from prosecution.

🇺🇦🇺🇸 Zelensky: Today I had a meeting with representatives of the US. The American side presented its proposals – points of the plan to end the war – their vision.

We agreed that the teams will work on these proposals. We will not make harsh statements and are committed to clear, honest work.

Senator Lindsey Graham says he has no knowledge of a reported 28-point plan to end the war in Ukraine and only knows what media have reported. He stresses the war must end through negotiations that are fair, prevent a third aggression, and involve both sides, first and foremost Ukraine, the victim.
The Hill reports that Congress was blindsided by Trump’s 28 point Ukraine plan, learning details mostly from the media. Lawmakers in both parties, including Trump allies like Lindsey Graham, are alarmed, calling the proposal heavily pro Russian and crafted without Congress or Ukrainian involvement.

This is an accidentally honest answer. What she's saying in code is:
"The President is a misogynist, petulant bully. You've all seen him be a misogynist, petulant bully. And lots of voters out there are also misogynist or petulant or bullies and that's why they like him."
Q: What did the president mean when he called a reporter "piggy"?

LEAVITT: Look, the president is very frank & honest with everyone in this room. You'll all seen it yourself. You've all experienced it yourselves. And I think it's one of the many reasons the American people reelected this president

Drafting a "peace plan" with Putin and then telling the Ukrainians to accept it is not mediation. It's acting as an agent for the Kremlin. Trump's and Witkoff's efforts to appease Putin are deeply disappointing. I was fooled into thinking Trump had finally figured Putin out. Looks like I was wrong
