I stood on this spot a year ago and vowed to faithfully care for this community of faith in an increasingly inhospitable culture. I’m grateful for everyone who have made similar vows this past year.

It’s these kinds of choices that led me to retire from TCU in 2020.
“There’s a particular kind of despair that comes from watching an institution abandon its principles in real time…What’s the political cost of supporting our own people versus the cost of quietly surrendering?” Powerful words from a TCU colleague. www.texasobserver.org/tcu-eliminat...

“We are in it for the long haul. The construction of camps and destruction of health care for the poor will not be reversed by one protest, or one sermon. The work of reclaiming the name of Christ from those who harm others in that holy name will not be completed over night.”

Callousness indeed. Shame on those who voted for this bill. “When did we see you…?” will be a reality one day for these members of Congress.
But for the arbitrary nature of birth and circumstance, any of us could be living in poverty, dependent upon assistance to put food on the table, to take our children to the doctor, and to pull ourselves out of debt. The lack of empathy, the pure callousness on display in this bill, is infuriating.

He released this on Juneteenth, a federal holiday. A holiday marking the end of chattel slavery. A holiday important to our African American siblings. In other words, this is racist.

A remarkable morning at the No Kings Rally/Handmaids March in Fort Worth. I had an unexpected opportunity to pray with and bless a number of the marchers.

Having served on the Child Care Associates board for almost 15 years and chaired it for three years I am appalled by the callous behavior of the Trump administration regarding funding early childhood education and Head Start abandoning opportunities for an entire generation of children and families.

And this is why “Are we on Booker’s team now?” is the wrong question.

He’s saying he wants to join OUR team.
Quite moving hearing Booker just now saying why he started this and referring to his constituents asking him to do more, do things differently, to take risks, and then referencing John Lewis. Sounds like he took the advocacy to heart.

The viable path to justice is through love. Love for ourselves and love for our opponents, our enemies….. In a very important way loving our enemies is about saving our own souls.”

4 years ago the anti racism council I co-chaired at Broadway issued the attached statement. Today the chief insurrectionist is pardoning the insurrectionists who invaded the capital. The moral arc of the universe is longer than I’d hoped though I still believe we can bend it toward justice.

Trust is not a magic spell that we can cast when things go sideways in life. Rather, trust is a choice that we make, based on God’s good creation, that allows us to live in community with each other as we seek the “peace of the city” in which God has planted us.
