It's baffling to me because, to me, the absolute best part of becoming very very rich would be never having to care what anyone else thinks of you ever again! But the social instinct to Impress The Older Boys is very strong in the former-nerd rich kid demographic our billionaire class is drawn from
I think "scared the boys will judge" explains so much shitty rich man behavior

I wrote a bit about this yesterday for Wonkette, because it's driving me nuts. If there's so much gov't fraud - not just Medicaid, but everywhere - it should be trivially easy to give examples. Instead they just keep repeating this as if saying it will make it true.

"There's so much fraud, waste, and abuse."

"Can you give us an example?"

"Oh ho ... trust us, there's so much fraud, waste and abuse, you wouldn't believe it."

"Try me! Just one."

"Sorry, there's too much fraud, waste, and abuse. I can't pick out just one instance of fraud, waste, and abuse."
REPORTER: Can you say unequivocally that down the line, there won't be cuts to Medicaid programs?

MIKE JOHNSON: Medicaid is hugely problematic because it has a lot of fraud, waste, and abuse.

feel like one problem of Trump is that describing him objectively sounds like you're insulting him

I'd wager a nontrivial cause of declining trust in press is precisely that people are accustomed to an era of politics where objective coverage generally sounded somewhat even-handed. And suddenly one party is constantly talked about like inept comic book supervillains.

And this is, of course, because one party has been taken over by a buffoonish comic book supervillain. But because this seems incredible to people—surely the American public wouldn't elect someone THAT terrible—they instead decide press are getting more biased.
