"Don't let anyone catch you with this," is a real thing someone told me when they slid a physical copy of the retail release of Duke Nukem Forever into my bag on the literal fucking show floor of E3. I had to calmly walk it out to my hotel room. It was the most cyberpunk shit and felt amazing.

Ive seen this quote before and always thought nintendo was weird about it until quite recently seeing the Toku comparisons and it all clicks. The toku styled hero (espically a metal hero space sheriff) fits Samus' initial vibe so well

In an era where tokusatsu is more popular in the west than it's ever been, we can't pretend that Nintendo's idea of someone who defeats evil aliens being more of a guardian of justice than a gritty mercenary is out of left field.
