I never take enough pictures when I'm out but I did take this one in my hallway. It's always so good to see all the friends and family we have brought together along the way.

For every assault they’ve faced, El Centro agents have used force over 3.6 times, according to the data. Across the Border Patrol, use of force incidents outpace assaults on agents by just over a 2-to-1 ratio. www.pogo.org/investigatio...

There is no good faith negotiation with someone who thinks that his personal views on intravenous drug use should matter at all when it comes to protecting the health, safety, and wellbeing of the state he is elected to govern. Extend this to today as you see fit.

I remember reading about Scott County & wondering how people in charge could just let people suffer when resources were available to help. I talked about Scott County whenever people said Mike Pence was a moral counterweight to Trump.
After 10+yrs can we accept that they dont care about people?

10 yrs after Scott County, the feds have fewer resources to offer and the crises facing the communities and the orgs managing this outbreak have only grown more complex. Horrific politics like Pence's are more typical and widely accepted. Day to day wellbeing has gotten more precarious.

Currently, Penobscot County in Maine is also experiencing a spike in HIV and public and community health organizations are working hard to reach out, test, and treat.

This looks amazing. I wonder if I can put my parental resentment aside enough to share this with my husband who would be all over this.

I'm embracing it. I feel like it's important to put a little bit of time aside in the morning to excavate whatevers going on.

As usual I'm not really going anywhere with this. I just think about this stuff sometimes and am profoundly glad that I had good teachers who seemed like they knew it was only a matter of time before something in our lives would explode and we'd need to approach it with curiosity & courage.

And wow...
"When I came back from the East last autumn...I wanted no more riotous excursions with privileged glimpses into the human heart...Only Gatsby, the man who gives his name to this book, was exempt from my reaction—Gatsby, who represented everything for which I have an unaffected scorn."

Im not sure that I read the Great Gatsby in his class but one day he spent 20 minutes talking to us about the first page of the Great Gatsby because it's really important that
(1) Nick is telling the story
(2) Nick is back in the Midwest
(3) Nick has a lot of feelings about what happened

I can only imagine what it's like having to pause every five minutes to do a backstory drop on the Popes you see in Hell for a bunch of 15 year olds. But he did it and I'm deeply appreciative that he thought we were worth the time and effort.

I also had this one high school English teacher who I appreciate more and more as I get older. We all thought the way he would say "say more" was hilarious but now I say that all the time. He also of his own accord offered a study group where he did guided readings of Dante in translation.
