Parents deserve information they can trust. The AAP has published the childhood immunization schedule for decades that has been grounded in science and relied upon by pediatricians and families alike. If you have questions, your pediatrician is your best source for answers and guidance.

@mehdirhasan.bsky.social asked me to write an explainer piece for @zeteo.com, so I did.

We worked for months with USAID to build an $85,000,000 project to end TB in two regions of the Philippines.

The project is funded by private money, the Philippine government, and matching USAID funds.

It could provide a blueprint for eliminating TB worldwide--except it's...not happening.

Much love and support to my colleagues at the CDC and NIH who are probably super unsure what’s going on, don’t know how it’s affecting their programs, but somehow have to keep doing their day to day because the work is important and people depend on them. ❤️ #IDsky

Emergence of ceftriaxone-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae through horizontal gene transfer among Neisseria spp
It has been suggested that the emergence of ceftriaxone-resistant strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae involves the incorporation of the penA gene from commensal Neisseria spp. that are resistant to ceftriaxone. However, the mechanism of this mosaic penA generation is unknown.

Neither do you.

Can we treat patients with low-risk BSI discharged from the ED with a fully-oral course of antibiotics?

[Spoiler: Yes!]

Safety of early oral ambulatory treatment of adult patients with bloodstream infections discharged from the emergency department | Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy
Randomized trials have unanimously shown the benefits of oral antibiotic treatments for stable patients with bacteremia (1). However, transition to oral therapy has been usually performed after several days of intravenous treatment—frequently up to 7 days (2)—highlighting the need for evidence of the safety of earlier oral treatments (3).
