The Fourth Amendment The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. *Unless you can... pay another entity to do this for you. Don't make it too obvious though, hide it in an inconspicuous box and call it “safety”. Don't keep this data forever; up to a year is probably fine. Make sure someone must at least type "asdf" for access - we don't want "bad" people abusing this or we'll have to go back to probable cause and those pesky warrants!

Central Washington Resistance handed a petition to the Yakima City Council on Tuesday, asking the city to turn off its Flock cameras. They want the city to build a policy around how the cameras and the data collected from them are used. The petition has more than 550 signatures.

Chief Lowe said he wants to turn all the #Flock cameras back on with effectively no changes! 👎

Whether there was any outside access or not is besides the point, we just don't want to be surveilled 24/7! 🚫

The suspension remains in place.

A legal review on the contract will be the next step. ✅

TITLE: FLOCK Automated License Plate Reading (ALPR) Cameras OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Police staff will present information to Council outlining the safeguards in place to prevent unauthorized access to Redmond’s ALPR data by outside entities, including federal immigration authorities. OUTCOMES: The Redmond Police Department developed a public FAQ to increase transparency and address community questions about Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) cameras. The FAQ clarifies how data is managed, who can access it, and what safeguards are in place. Redmond operates 24 ALPR cameras, 21 grant-funded and three donated, positioned along primary routes and in areas with higher crime. The Police Department owns and controls all ALPR data, retained currently for 30 days and not shared nationally. Any external request must be reviewed and approved by the Police Chief to ensure compliance with Washington law and City policy. Access is limited to approved law enforcement agencies with a legitimate investigative purpose. Internal and external audits confirm that no federal or out-of-state agencies have accessed Redmond’s data. Strict internal controls and Flock Safety’s built-in filters prevent unauthorized or prohibited use, ensuring compliance with the Keep Washington Working Act

If your city is suspending or cancelling #Flock, remember that "switching to another #ALPR vendor" is NOT the solution.

Dragnet bulk data collection is the core problem. #Flock is just one particularly egregious example.

Mass #surveillance does not make any of us safer! 🚫
