What is your favorite season of year? Why? This one is probably not a surprise… Autumn! I always loved the sound of the word and its spelling. The cobalt skies. The trees aflame. The VIBRANCY. The color. The diamond morning frost. The first breath of coming winter. The electric air. The haunting howl through the branches and winds shaking the house at night.

Hello, all! I've been offline for.... I believe about 6 weeks? I apologize for that. It's been an incredibly busy time for me. First, my day job in tech had a project that spiked, so I worked a lot of extra hours. Second, I had my head down with minimal distractions to work on the revision suggestions from my agent Kristen Terrette.

For those of you not following my social media— Today I signed my contract with my literary agent Kristen Terrette at Martin Literary Management! I’m thrilled! I knew as soon as I sat down at the table at the Atlanta Writing Day Workshop in March when we first met that this was the person I wanted to champion my book.

My happy place is snuggled up on my couch with either a book to read or my laptop to work on one of mine, with at least one fur baby asleep under the blanket with me… listening to the rain drum against the leaves in a lazy all day thunderstorm. Which is today. I’m so grateful for the lovely view, the petrichor scent—the fact I found a place like this without giving up city amenities.

I forgot my pain medication yesterday completely and I’m paying for it. It takes about two minutes to make a breakfast smoothie and I had to sit down three times because my joints couldn’t hold me up. The energy it took to get through breakfast (ended up taking 45 minutes 😵‍💫) used up all the energy I have for this morning.

What was the best compliment you've received? At my first solo art show, a woman came up to me and told me my work reminded her of Frida Kahlo. She’d never been covered in my courses (yet) so I had no idea who she was. I rushed home after and looked her up. Instant obsession. One of my bucket list trips is to see La Casa Azul (her home and museum) in México City.

I posted this on my personal (not professional) FB account today, and realized I should share this with everyone. The chronic fatigue aspect of hypermobility disorders is brutal. **** Trying very very hard to not be enraged at the chronic fatigue aspects of my body. I’m so tired of having Weak Pancake Days, where I can’t sit upright longer than an hour (maybe two) before my joints bottom out and I’m puddled on the floor, flat as a pancake and too weak to lift my phone.

What is your favorite type of weather? A good thunderstorm (with no chance of tornado or hurricane). I love sitting in the dark and drinking in the rage and power of Mother Nature. Lazy rainy days, preferably with mist like north Georgia or Portland, Oregon in winter. Let me snuggle up with a blanket, coffee, my fur kids, and either my laptop to write or a fresh book.

Writing a completely new work always feels surreal to me. I feel like an outsider to my own imagination. Every time I start a new rough draft, I fight imposter syndrome tooth and nail. (I’m learning from other writers I meet this is both normal and permanent.) I could’ve just finished the best thing I’ve ever written yesterday, and opening the blank white document today still causes a heart attack and my mind starts shrieking, “I have no idea what I’m doing!

Now that I'm beginning to feel better, I spent a good portion of today structuring what I have so far for the sequel necromancy novel (still doesn't have a name). While I was recovering, I shortened SING THE BONES by 10,000 words (about 42 pages) by combining two sets of minor characters and removing a few scenes that could be placed in another novel (whether this gets published by as a sequel or in something else entirely).

Where would you go on a shopping spree? Powell’s City of Books. When I lived in Portland I joked with loved ones back home that it was my new address. Seriously, if you are a bibliophile at all, you NEED to visit Portland, Oregon and see the world’s largest indie bookstore in person. It’s an entire city block and four stories.

Hello, all! I’ve been rather quiet this week. This has been partly due to a sharp EDS flareup gifted to me by the unusual cold snap in north Georgia. I needed two days off work just to sleep through the exhaustion portion and let my joints heal. I didn’t start feeling like myself until late Thursday. Today was my first “normal” day.

What is one word that describes you? Pivot. I’m laughing at myself because my skin crawls when I hear it at my day job… but it fits. It’s also nicer than stubborn and more approachable than goofy😆 One thing that stands out in my life, personality, and career. My plans go awry (a LOT): pivot. Reuse, reinvent, recycle. Compost. Innovate. Shift.

Which animal would you compare yourself to and why? This one’s a tie. My playful half matches my ferrets exactly. Curious, intelligent, goofy, silly, hilarious, playful—lives to make loved ones laugh. Loves sleep and cuddles. Will hide favorite things in a stash. Zero fear to the point of foolishness. My serious side: lioness. Strategic, determined, a born leader who also plays well on collaborative teams to bring home the prize.

You're writing your autobiography. What's your opening sentence? It’s been a running joke that I’m a dandelion thriving in concrete. After I hit menopause I jokingly began referring to myself as Swamp Witch (it’s a reference to Flemeth from Dragon Age) and its stuck. So my one liner description (not necessarily opening line) would have something to do with “Swamp Witch: as indestructible as dandelions in concrete!”
