All I can think about tonight: it won’t be long before the next Whakaari/Christchurch/Covid/Gabrielle sized disaster & PM Luxon bungles it so bad he takes a page out of the GOP playbook by gaslighting the country into believing it was Labour’s fault somehow. It’s all so depressingly predictable.

Been here a few weeks now and I still read it as Blueski, like brewski, every time 🍻

Now officially an NZ Citizen. Things I love about NZ:
-no school shootings
-year of mat leave
-my legal relationship status not constantly under threat
-public health system
-strong PSA

Basically everything David Seymour would love to undo

Things I don’t get:
-fairy bread
-anyone voting for NACT

‘Those of us who continue to take Covid precautions are often made to feel wrong and laughable…But if you know the science, the normalisation of Covid infections is disturbing. Going against the grain is often not a vindicating experience but a lonely and at times desperate place.’
Gambling with Covid: Repeat infections are damaging us
The science is clear, the effects are profound and the toll of Long Covid and reinfections can’t be ignored.

I’ve been reading Heather’s writing for a decade now. It’s not an exaggeration to say she helped me come out, helped me see earnestness and caring as strengths and most importantly helped me be more compassionate with myself when my endo kicks in, my body crashes and I can’t tick things off my list.
My friends, this is my last week at Autostraddle. I have written a goodbye post here: bit.ly/3tagI75

And if you want support me by supporting my newsletter, I would be grateful beyond the telling of it: bit.ly/3RBQV1G

“Nothing can fend off death or pain or societal failures. But we can talk about these things. We can talk about how they make us feel. And then we can do our part to change them.”
“Sex Education” Showed Us a Better Way
The thematic core of this season is that it’s okay to not be okay.

Pretty depressing watching NZ make the same mistake the US did in 2016. Elevating fascists in suits because someone who wasn’t a white man held power too long and threatened the status quo.
