Without genuine engagement the longevity of initiatives is less likely.
It is quite remarkable to read proposals where scientists say they are going to develop all these wonderful new insights for conservation, sustainability, etc
But then say they will disseminate their findings to stakeholders at the end of the project

Absolutely spot on!
To me, this is such an important message, as so many ecologists seem (paradoxically) to lose their connection with nature as they get promoted up the career ladder. Time spent in nature, especially if together with the next generation of ecologists, is time very well spent.
