Interesting flick, The Smashing Machine. There’s been Qs on whether Mark Kerr has lived a life deserving of a biopic, but it’s both the story of the birth of the UFC and convincing depiction of what a corrosive relationship can look like. A lot of the film is very good, just don’t expect a Rocky arc

Leftists everywhere are winning elections and rising in polls by refusing to pander on the right on migrant rights, trans rights, Palestinian freedom etc. Let these lessons sink in, I beg

The only “honest conversation about immigration” would state that there is no solid ground for saying that immigration in Ireland is too high and only the prejudiced would make such a claim

Simon Harris is a coward and a bully who would rather scapegoat innocent communities of vulnerable people rather than face up to the failures of either his government or himself as a leader, a Cabinet minister and a human being. Couldn't think less of him and have no problem saying it.

I love it! The Catherine Connolly campaign very successfully spun that Ivan Yates smear quote into a dastardly scheme being hatched by Fine Gael, when all the time Yates had been coaching the Fianna Fáil candidate!

The Stendhal Syndrome (1996) A stoic and visceral fill. I enjoyed how it lingers on great artwork, inviting the viewer to appreciate and interpret each piece. But I found the pacing unnecessary slow 2/4

I just finished @deanvannguyen.bsky.social's utterly brilliant Words for my Comrades: A Political History of Tupac Shakur. Epic in scope, sure in its history and often very moving about the inevitable spectre of capitalism reasserting and co-opting. But hope here too, thankfully. LOVED.
