in general the portrayal of sex (esp. heterosexual sex) as something that HAS to happen in a romantic relationship, that everyone HAS to want, is something that has always struck me as odd and misogynystic. so often, it's the woman who has to "get over" her reservations around sex.

the thing that thinking about fumiko- barem and Death as well- makes me realize is what’s interesting about yoru is that /she/ is not interesting. she is a causal actor in the story, extremely important to character development, shifts and degradation in others,

honestly I think this is why it’s easier to hate her for her actions, even when objectively they are less destructive and affect less people. it’s harder to hate something that operates from an entirely inhuman mindset as compared to one that has recognizable human impulses behind what it does.
Death has made me realize just how human yoru is in her expressions and behaviors as compared to her (initial, since nayuta was raised in humanity and so adopted their traits) truly devil-like sisters
