The Affordable Care Act became law in 2010

Since then, Republicans tried to repeal, replace, defund and overturn it

NEVER did they offer a viable alternative to it

Now-as health insurance costs are exploding-they’re terrified

Because it threatens their hegemony over the American body politic
COLLINS: If you have a healthcare plan, why not have that out there to talk about in the public so people can hear it?

MIKE JOHNSON: We need to get back to regular session so we can. We will not negotiate with legislative terrorists

The same people who obsessed over a tan suit, a private email server, a boisterous laugh, and an autopen are strangely indifferent to the likelihood that their president raped children.

Today, the U.S. faces one billion+ dollar climate/weather disaster on average every 2w. That's a massive increase from one every 4m in the 1980s.

This is 'global weirding' and people are taking notice!

The government told NOAA to stop tracking these events: but @climatecentral.org is on the job.

Sarcasm aside, it's perhaps worth pointing out that the evidence suggests that weather disasters reduce economic growth for decades - the idea that there's rapid bounceback, or even extra growth stimulated by recovery, has proved wrong

We all get poorer every time a climate disaster strikes
Long-term economic effects of global warming could be far greater than thought, making many countries poorer and hurting even those of us spared direct impacts

Here’s the way to think about climate change that I learned from @drkatemarvel.bsky.social:

We’re creating an increasingly chaotic and dangerous world, sending our children and grandchildren there, and they’re never coming back.

Something maybe worth noting is that all the frog costumes and signs and good-natured memeing came about because a wide spectrum of Americans saw someone in direct, brave confrontation with ICE—getting pepperballed and standing their ground—and thought “that’s awesome. That person is a hero”

This is my kid’s CF story. It’s also the story of how university research changes lives. It’s why I will never shut up about why gutting science is bad. Right now there are scientists working on something that will change the life of someone you love. youtu.be/9yELVmRJjVw?...

Trumpnomics: Get tariff money from US consumers on Chinese goods. Our farmers can’t sell their products because the Chinese refuse to pay our tariffs. China buys from farmers in Argentina instead. We send Argentina $20 billion. Then we pay our farmers to throw their crops away.

When finance ignores nature, it drives ecosystem loss and systemic risks. But guided by ecological realities, it can help safeguard the life-support systems we all depend on. A new iScience review shows how systems thinking can align capital with ecology: www.stockholmresilience.org/research/res...

You know how sometimes we find toxic waste that’s been haphazardly dumped decades ago and think, “what the fuck were they thinking?” That’s how the future will think about almost everything we’re doing in 2025.

When I was in college, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to major in so I explored lots of different classes. One of them was a genetics class at NCSU that I completely fell in love with and it’s the reason I chose to study science.

Hey everybody! @drjuliawester.bsky.social and I have a new paper!

We surveyed over 800 scientists, science communicators, and science educators who use social media.

Conclusion: Scientists no longer find Twitter useful or pleasant, and many have switched to Bluesky! 🧪🌎🦑
