She/they. 🇨🇦 FR<>EN translator. Wannabe writer. Animal lover. Wrestling fan. Reading challenge creator. Night owl. Yeet genAI into the sun.
Today, I caught up on my freelance invoicing. Or if you prefer, I quantified my procrastination, and it's sobering.

A little jealous, I'll admit. This would be fun, although it would interfere with popcorn consumption.
The treadmill screening of ‘THE LONG WALK’ took place, where every person had to walk on a treadmill faster than 3MPH for the whole movie.

If they stopped, they were escorted out of the theater.

Did something today that feels both bold and chickenshit, oddly enough. Let's see what happens.

Yup
At what point will the convenience of tech be outweighed by the need to habitually check anything you look at is real.

One's probably obvious. As for the rest...
Maybe not even just one...

Funny that, how common sense is always on your side.

Silver lining: translation is the area of genAI least used by authors. Hey authors/publishers: this is one more reason to feature the names of your translators prominently. Same goes for designers and editors and so on. Otherwise, my $ stays in my pocket, just in case. #humanxl8 #saynotogenAI
so half the authors out there want nothing whatsoever to do with genAI for anything for any reason. of those who do use genAI, over 70% hide the fact that they're using it

oh, really.

After a 20-ish week hold at the library, I finally got to read for myself what all the fuss is about. Someone You Can Build a Nest In by @wiswell.bsky.social. Shesheshen is an absolute delight! #booksky 📚💙

That thread perfectly encapsulates why I feel such visceral revulsion when I come across genAI anything. Keep it away from me.
That look you get from generative AI imagery is 100% the new aesthetic of fascism

Poor customer service drives a perimenopausal woman mad. I get a call from an automated system. It asks what language I prefer, then puts me on hold for the next representative. Said representative does not speak the language I selected and says I was never on hold. 🤬🤬🤬💀💀💀

A pretty apt metaphor for Canadian sentiment about the US in general these days #elbowsup
The funny thing is Target really thought they were special and irreplaceable in people’s lives and this has been a tough lesson for them.
The divergence here from two companies with *very* similar customer bases is pretty wild, you do not see this sort of thing happen at scale very often.

Just finished @tkingfisher.com's The Twisted Ones. There are very few authors with such a knack for creating and sustaining a creepy atmosphere 💀 And making me worry about a fictional dog 🐕 Chef's kiss - highly recommend! #amreading #booksky 📚💙

So, if anyone sees Carissa Orlando out in the wild, tell her The September House is my favourite #hauntedhouse story of all time. Now, on to T. Kingfisher s The Twisted Ones, which should be a great creepy, gory old time #amreading #booksky 📚💙

Please please please please please, let this narrator be reliable. I will be so disappointed if this is all in her head #amreading #booksky 📚💙

I'm two sentences into the first chapter (after reading the prologue), and I'm already in love with the writing of Carissa Orlando's September House. This should be another fun read #AmReading #BookSky 📚💙

If you see this, quote it with what you're reading this weekend!

I'm finishing up Poul Anderson's The Broken Sword (history/saga-type storytelling is catnip for me), and excited to crack open Amal el-Mohtar's The River Has Roots next.

Just finished Heavenly Tyrant by @xiranjayzhao.bsky.social. A masterful exploration of society and power dynamics, wrapped in action goodness perfect for this child raised on Grendizer. Glorious cover art as always. And one heck of a cliffhanger!

Wake Up and Open Your Eyes by @claymcleod.bsky.social. Many horror novels rely on your imagination, like the monster under your bed. What is terrifying about this story is how little suspension of disbelief is required. It is bleak, it is tense, it is gory, and it is a phenomenal read.
