Talk to me about birds and hockey
As my kids grow deeper in the joy of riding the bikes, I grieve having to teach them certain types of vehicles/behaviors to watch out for. Pointing out specific vehicles neighborhood vehicles—"that person is not looking out for you." (Neighborly shame has been mildly effective at mitigating this)
As we hurtle towards the 160th person to die on our roads this year, I have just read that the Road Safety Authority proudly declares it has distributed 204,000 high vis items - jackets, vests, bib, armbands, rucksack covers, and drawstring bags. That speeding SUV can't harm me if I'm wearing a bib!

Peter Dinklage taking over a role from Natasha Lyonne sounds like a fake headline for April Fools day, but I am so happy to know it's real.

Today, at a different event for people to get free food, we had 50% more guests than usual. I've heard similar from other nearby organizations.
Time to get creative, in ways we haven't had to be since accounting for the onset of a pandemic in 2020.
(The need now is even greater than it was then.)
Had a full morning of chatting, joking, praying, and lifting at our church food distribution. I am thankful because I love these people and joy abounded.
But my goodness there are so many in need. ~15% more guests than ever before, ~30% more than usual.

The sheriff "did not specify how many people had complained to him about the post, only saying there were “multiple people.”"

It took me about than a year pastoring in Tennessee to learn that this means, literally zero people.
A 61-year-old Tennessee man posted a liberal meme on Facebook after Charlie Kirk's death. A conservative sheriff had him arrested. Bail was set at $2 million.

He spent nearly 40 days in jail before charges were dropped. Now he's planning to sue. Our story: www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2025/...

The 61-year-old Tennessee man plans to sue after authorities dropped charges over a political Facebook post. Free-speech advocates say it’s a symptom of a wider crackdown.

“You’ve gotta be squeaky clean on antisemitism“ is another phrase that’s going to writhe around moaning in my head for a while.

The full on horse-race-ification of political discourse is distorting our moral sensibilities, redirecting them to places where they do no good.

The day of that big protest in DC in 05, the national mall was also hosting the national book fair and I guess the way I'd describe No Kings is that it contains all the kinds of people who were at the anti-war rally that day PLUS all the book fair attendees. I think that's good for us, probably?

Some moral experts have called it wrong for domestic abusers to claim that only they deserve peace because they do what it takes to protect their people.
Hegseth: "As history teaches us, the only people who actually deserve peace and those who are willing to wage war to defend it. That's why pacifism is so naive and dangerous."
