New collaborative study out with Mark Wu’s group identifies a thalamic reuniens-zona incerta circuit as both responsive to induced sleep deprivation and essential for mediating recovery sleep. Further perspective on this work follows./1

Sleep need–dependent plasticity of a thalamic circuit promotes homeostatic recovery sleep

Every time journalists write up a Colossus press release, They are making people stupider. Client journalism by a ridiculous company.

Zuckerberg's 'masculine energy' got its first big win with Trump declaring there are only two genders. This is an agenda that will see laws passed to push gays back into the closet and women back into the kitchen. Our trans siblings are in the front line of this fight, so now more than ever

Honored that a piece I wrote made it to NYTimes. It’s about how my mom’s stroke changed my connection to time, science, and nature. What a privilege to honor my mom in Modern Love.

At a time when support for biomedical research has never been more uncertain in the USA, we have 766 applications for 16 places in our Neuroscience Graduate Program here at Johns Hopkins. I suspect that other neuroscience programs are seeing a similar situation.

Euan Ashley on E Topol's podcast "if you look at this very big study of .5 million people and look at their physical activity over the course of years and correlate it with their likelihood of being alive or being dead, then it was clear that 1 minute of exercise bought you 5 minutes of extra life."

Don’t let them fool you. RFK, Jr. received his funding from big Republican donors.

Steve Bannon urged him to run!

Why? Because he’s there to play spoiler.

Democrats shouldn’t fall for it. A vote for RFK, Jr. is a vote to help Trump win, plain and simple.
