As a teenager I worked in a boutique tile factory and can remember John Laws booming away via the office radio. Not really my cup of tea but I guess he made his mark on Australian broadcasting.

Protest is central to democracy and doesn't need to justify itself. That said, it would be interesting to learn if there are economic benefits to the protests in Melbourne CBD. Presumably some of them will buy food or coffee afterwards
