@flygirlnhm.bsky.social this parasite was found today at Knell on a Blackbird's feather. What is it do you know? Is it feeding on Bird's blood?

🌀 So proud to see that our research has been featured in The Guardian! 😯

🦜60 species restricted to a single location on a single island face immediate extinction by a cyclone🌀

🌀 Today they are present but following a cyclone they may go extinct overnight 🌀

🌪️ We hope this work will stimulate more conversations & research collaborations around the threat tropical cyclones pose to island biodiversity 🦜🏝️

Getting to know my cohort and learning some very important transferable skills somewhere new to me (Cheltenham) 😃 intense at times but intimately fun. Just like a PhD is supposed to be right? I hope so!
This week, CENTA is on our annual first year residential, the CENTA Field TRiPP (Training Residential in Policy and Publishing, FKA 'The Speed PhD'.) We're in sunny Cheltenham and the Cotswolds with some fantastic field projects across various areas of Environmental Science #CENTATRiPP2025

My favourite bird and one that I deeply care about. Because of this, I continue to do a range of efforts to highlight this species vulnerability to extinction by hurricanes (this being one of such). I sincerely hope to see this bird again one in future #ornithology
2019's Hurricane Dorian may have wiped out the entire Bahama Warbler population on Great Bahama. Since then, increasingly frequent & destructive hurricanes have put into question nearby populations' longevity.

More at BOW thanks to @david-peartree.bsky.social & BirdsCaribbean!

Nice Christmas present this year - new paper on the inferred impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on hunted mammal species in Cusuco National Park, Honduras, just accepted! Great work by Dylan McKenna pushing it through. Pre-proof version here: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

This blog from Tim Chamberlain illustrates an incredible day spent climbing up a ~40m tree to be in awe at the canopy that lay above. This took place at Cusuco National Park, Honduras, during 2024 expedition with Operation Wallacea. Curious? Read here:
