Great to see our evidence map of husbandry and management actions in zoos and aquaria (identifying 1071 studies that quantitatively evaluate such actions) out in JZAR! This was a big piece of work with a lot of investment from lots of people, so fantastic to see it out! www.jzar.org/jzar/article...

Great to see our recent paper on the threats tropical cyclones pose to biodiversity featured in the Guardian!
🌀 So proud to see that our research has been featured in The Guardian! 😯

🦜60 species restricted to a single location on a single island face immediate extinction by a cyclone🌀

🌀 Today they are present but following a cyclone they may go extinct overnight 🌀

Nice piece in the Conversation giving an overview of our recent Biological Conservation paper, which highlights the threat tropical cyclones pose to species in Biodiversity Hotspots.

Great to see the huge new (open access) BioTIME 2 paper out; very happy to have contributed to this with lots of excellent collaborators! Should be a super-useful resource going forwards: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
BioTIME 2.0: Expanding and Improving a Database of Biodiversity Time Series
Motivation Here, we make available a second version of the BioTIME database, which compiles records of abundance estimates for species in sample events of ecological assemblages through time. The up.....

Very pleased to help out with this great new open-access paper led by @thereremouse.bsky.social which provides a much-needed update to the terrestrial mammal inventory of Krka National Park, Croatia. Should be a very useful resource for park managers!

Great to see our paper on the threat of tropical storms to global island biodiversity out. Key highlights are the Caribbean being especially vulnerable to storm-driven extinctions, and the identification of 60 'high risk' species representing key conservation priorities shorturl.at/EAqOS
Heightened extinction risk due to tropical cyclones in insular biodiversity hotspots
Tropical Cyclones (TCs) represent a serious and potentially growing threat to global biodiversity, although spatial patterns in the severity of this t…

Roman Mosaic in the Bardo museum in Tunisia which showcases shifting extinction baselines. Orpheus plays his lyre to a bunch of animals that all occurred in the Roman empire (and all except the tiger in Tunisia) when it was made, yet are now all extinct (or only recently reintroduced):

Great to see this book chapter preprint out on @authorea.com; a massive piece of work providing an extremely thorough overview of the knowledge gaps that impede research into poorly-studied taxa. Congratulations to @jonathancazabonne.bsky.social and @dhaelewa.bsky.social for pushing this through!

A gorgeous fly collected from @opwallscience.bsky.social trip to Honduras in 2023

Ormia sp. are very special Tachinidae as they have ‘ears’ on their prothorax that they use to listen for the hosts (Orthoptera) for their offspring to live in and consume 😎🤓

Nice Christmas present this year - new paper on the inferred impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on hunted mammal species in Cusuco National Park, Honduras, just accepted! Great work by Dylan McKenna pushing it through. Pre-proof version here: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Great to see this @plosone.org article out, excellently headed up by @dhaelewa.bsky.social and @thereremouse.bsky.social. This cross-site study demonstrates that standardized bat survey techniques dont work equally well in all ecosystems, and assuming that they do can severely impact results!
