Salmon have very good vision, for both in water and out. They can focus on near objects and far objects simulatanously. I think, one use of this vision is to study obstacles as they navigate up small creeks to reach their spawning grounds.

Salmon find their way from the ocean to their natal estuary using the magnetic field. They find their way from there smelling their natal stream. They remember the smell. They can detect one particle per trillion, a scenting ability a thousand times greater than dog.
