Or - 'people will suffer your personality if you make them money'.
I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here

Same colour reference. First coat. Dulux Eggshell on the left, Dulux bathroom paint on the right.

I get that emulsion and water based wouldn’t be identical, but are we really having it that these are both what you would walk out with from the same colour swatch?!

Lovely to see this year's Stirling Jury reach the correct decision. A new dawn!

@acjimbo.bsky.social Listening to the latest pod and thinking perhaps the next World Cup is the Canamerexico World Cup? Or not, obviously.

Quite ambivalent about the proposed extension of pub drinking hours in the UK, mostly because extending the time in which I'm allowed to do something I can no longer afford to do - which used to be a firmly embedded part of normal life - is kind of irrelevant to me.

Apropos of nothing, I just remembered how my previous employer once insisted that all the men in the office play in a half day charity football tournament organised by a client on a weekday, but also demanded we work on the weekend to make up the time.

Insane behaviour in hindsight.

For anyone who needs to hear it, knocking a home down to build another one is not sustainable however much wood you use.

And if you can afford £1m for something to destroy and rebuild, you can afford 20% VAT on retrofitting / extending the existing I’m afraid.

Sorry.

I have procrastinated for a month over booking a Eurostar to a conference speaking slot because I find train booking irrationally stressful. Great for the whole conference to be cancelled roughly 4 hours after I booked.

Wonder if they'll refund the 50% cancellation fee? (seems unlikely...)

What's the lesson here I hear you ask?

He became what he is today with two U's when only one was needed.

It was only later the remaining two letters became clear.

Right, it’s time, finally.

You of course may not be interested and that’s entirely fine, but I am ready and excited for THE FOOTBALL.

There have been some strong contenders over the years, but I can't see a better candidate than this for worst English top division kit of all time.

Just read the analysis of Arsenal's emerging stylistic changes on @theathleticfc.bsky.social and have a very strong hunch Zubimendi will be my new favourite player.

Roll on Sunday's usual Old Trafford disappointment I guess...

I have just received my first email of the year imploring me to make bookings for Xmas. It is not yet August.

Liverpool FC not too bothered about making any friends in this window eh? Stiffing Newcastle on both Ekitike and Isak in one move now swooping in on Will Wright despite a verbal agreement with Arsenal. Fair enough to an extent. But when everyone hates them...

Hi, it’s my birthday on Sunday.

For that, I’d like an announcement by the end of the week that it’s all gone quiet on Gyökeres because Liverpool’s offer has nudged Isak into pushing for a move, but now they’ve tied up Ekitike, Isak’s off to Arsenal.

And a nice bottle of wine.

Thanks.

Intirgued by the new Domus on wood.

At first glance it appears to be guidebook on how to spend all the carbon saved via timber construction on the whims of the architect - how to make the least sustainable sustainable building. Am I wrong? Not seen a copy in real life yet.

I'm aware many will think this position ludicrous, but I've often thought a fully fit and played in version of Dominic Calvert Lewin could thrive at Arsenal.

For free? If sensible wages could be agreed? Surely worth a punt.

I almost never eat out these days, despite how much I enjoy it.

Therefore disproportionately excited to have booked a birthday lunch somewhere a bit fancy that I’ve been wanting to try for aaaaaaages at the end of the month.

Timber construction is having a moment, and from sleek urban offices to modular housing blocks, wood is being hailed as the sustainable material of the future.

Hello Canadian housing bluesky.

Help! We have a project in Toronto. Does the city have any defined / statutory standards around space requirements for apartments? Also, does this include guidance on private or communal outdoor space for multi-family buildings?
