I learn slowly. Sorry, but I just do. But I do persist, so eventually, I get it. What I need from Duolingo is an elementary understanding of psychology. I just need encouragement to keep going—I'm not going to do anything faster than I feel like. But instead, every day I'm greeted by this sad sack.

There's one thing that's more ecologically irresponsible than almost any other single action we can take—eating beef. Cattle farming is literally a war on wild mammals. Yeah, I know it's yummy. Yeah, I know it's a social signal of manliness. But we've got to face up to it, if we care about wildlife.

I realise that tariffs are a poor policy choice, but really, I was a little surprised by the speed of the impacts.

For my first degree dissertation, (mid 80s) I studied Futurism—the art movement of the first decades of the C.20th. That some of their leading lights became enamoured by, then marginalised by, Fascism wasn’t lost on me then, and resonates now. Techno-oafs may be following similar trajectories.
