Great episode! I did Treasure Trap once back in the 1980s, and have always wondered whether I was missing out by not doing it again. I have my answer—no! Now I know for sure that I would pay good money not to do LARPing. Crikey! Just fascinating how different things float different people's boats!

Examples I've heard of often involve transcription of voices or notes, helpful for lawyers, social workers and surgeons. But it's worthwhile considering the absolute value of the prompt, versus the value added by the response. As a transaction, users are informing the LLM more than vice-versa.

I've heard of genuine socially positive LLM deployments. (I can give examples.) But, right now, big tech is charging less for AI than it costs—suggesting that end user costs will skyrocket once businesses are locked in, and free LLMs will pursue agendas other than delivering value to users.

I'm simply thinking about what keeps the money-go-round spinning: cash! Each round of alleged innovation promises to create value (and in most cases, does) but elides the value that it destroys. The net added value is the true value—I'm starting to suspect that very little is currently being added.

I beg to differ! Social media and search do provide major income streams for tech companies. So yes, they do give a sh¡t about them.

Without search, where would Google be? And without social media, where would Meta be?

My problem is, I've devised one with unknowns to explore (in-game mysteries, story and interaction challenges, and design-as-you-go tasks) and it seems interesting—and quite different from other games I've played—but I just can't be bothered to… you know… play it! Is what it's missing other people?
