NEW:

A dramatic voiceover video the White House and Donald Trump shared last week claiming to show "chaos" in Chicago is littered with outdated footage from Florida, Texas, South Carolina, Nebraska, California and Arizona, an AFP investigation found.

House Republicans Want To Doxx Wikipedia Editors Over Bogus ‘Bias’ Complaints
Congress has absolutely zero constitutional authority to investigate a private website for its editorial decisions. Zero. None. This is First Amendment 101. Yet House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and Cybersecurity Subcommittee Chairwoman Nancy Mace have decided otherwise. In a letter to Wikimedia Foundation CEO Maryana Iskander, these two Republicans are demanding that Wikipedia hand over editor identities, internal communications, and arbitration records because some studies suggest there might be bias in Wikipedia articles about Israel-Palestine issues.

A government-sanctioned "truth arbiter" will soon arrive at CBS. Their role will be to ensure that journalists do not criticize this Administration or express views that conflict with its agenda.

This is a betrayal—not just of journalistic independence, but of the public trust. 🧵

For years, I've been pointing out the recent attacks on the Voice of America echo McCarthyism and critics of the international broadcaster wanted its coverage of the US to be pure propaganda. This article articulates my argument far better than I have done. www.cjr.org/analysis/joseph-m... #SaveVOA

You can never bend the knee enough to appease an authoritarian bully.

This is a devastating blow to academic freedom & freedom of speech at Columbia.

Never in the history of this nation has there been an administration so intent on the utter destruction of higher education as we know it.

I had the privilege of visiting the Van Gogh Museum in #Amsterdam last week. His final painting, Tree Roots, was especially moving. Unfinished and painted the morning before he succumbed to his mental illness, it's quite an emotional experience to see it in person. #art

Career advice for developers:

Write normal code. Just the basic good stuff. Don't be fancy, don't be clever. Don't use currying everywhere. You don't need Docker for everything. Also don't write dumb code. Please write good code. But make it normal. As unsurprising as possible.

Thank you

The United States has sent a 79-year-old man with a limited vocabulary, whose face is painted in orange pigment and hair is I-Don't-Know-What to speak to America's interests at the G-7. He will do so in incomplete or broken sentences.

He will then report back as to who liked him and who he liked.

In serious countries that are actual democracies, strong mainstream parties force members who do stuff like this to resign, & far right authoritarian parties that do this are shunned from government. Here in 🇺🇸, one of our two parties has collapsed into far right authoritarianism. So neither happens.

In 2018, Donald Trump, then in his first term as US president, let Iran out of nuclear restrictions in exchange for nothing.

Many people, very much including me, warned that he put things on a path with only two possible outcomes: large-scale war, or a nuclear-armed Iran.

And here we are.
