I've had to update my teaching notes for American government a few times during this administration, but removing Strom Thurmond as the longest filibuster in history was not one I ever expected

I don't think the current administration understands the degree to which this will genuinely radicalize young people

I’ve long used FiveThirtyEight’s interactive “Hack Your Way To Scientific Glory” to illustrate the idea of p-hacking when I teach statistics. But ABC/Disney killed the site earlier this month :(

So I made my own with #rstats and Observable and #QuartoPub ! stats.andrewheiss.com/hack-your-way/

NEW: DOJ tells Judge Boasberg that it fervently objects to his requests for more information about deportation flights under the Alien Enemies Act, BUT if he insists, they could privately share some info (in camera, ex parte) storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

US's req'd response to Judge Boasberg's minute order to explain several points in JGG v. Trump. Govt maintains that it did not have to follow an oral court order, does not need to provide flight details re MO.4, and that exiting US airspace constitutes "removal" drive.google.com/file/d/1SX6B...

If you know someone on the job market this year, UT-Chattanooga is hiring an assistant professor in public law. I’m not on the committee but happy to answer any questions. (And as a native Chattanoogan I’ll give you my totally unbiased takes on the city—ha!)

Update: We’re up to 75 members of Congress on Bluesky, including 17 Senators.

A few notable additions from the last few days:

- @rep-rosa-delauro.bsky.social
- @pattymurray.bsky.social

That’s around 1/3 of Democrats in Congress. Good progress!

One thing I've noticed with most in the current generation of political reporters: they seem to have absolutely no comprehension of electoral environments. And thus every win or loss in their view can be traced to small, tactical campaign decisions. There's no systematic thinking in their analyses.

Now that Bluesky has started to take off, I've created a starter pack of US-focused public finance researchers, institutions, journals, etc.! We're not a huge field, but let me know who I've missed!
