I want to emphasize what Judge Boasberg says the gov't can do to purge the contempt: "assert[] custody" so as to allow the people removed under the AEA Proclamation in violation of his TROs to file for habeas.
He explicitly says gov't does not have to return them to the U.S. Just assert custody.
In his memo, Judge Boasberg writes that the administration can purge the contempt by "asserting custody" over the AEA Proclamation kidnappees so they can file habeas claims. He notes the gov't would not need to release them or "transport them back to the homeland."
Can someone explain what "purg[ing] their contempt" means in this case? Is it just correcting the facts on the record, or would that require them to comply with the original order and return the plaintiffs to the US?

Boasburg seemed similarly skeptical of the govts position on oral v written orders, and I expect will be unsatisfied with its position on disclosing flight details, as he explicitly offered sealed submissions in the MO and the govt offers little new defense on this front

From reporting of yesterday's hearing (was in class, couldn't listen 😔), Boasberg seemed to disagree with the stance that exiting US airspace was sufficient, and that his order would compel the return of deportees after flights landed if they were not remanded to Venezuelan custody
