It drives me nuts. The Telegraph, Mail, Sun etc and the politicians they sponsor like Johnson, Farage, Cameron & Truss got everything they wanted for fourteen of the last fifteen years & only now, with Labour in power for *less than one*, do they acknowledge the damage they have done. It’s sick.

This quote from Trump’s lawyer Alina Habba is the very essence of MAGA and other know-nothing Right Wing movements:

““Somebody said to me, Alina, would you rather be smart or pretty? And I said, easy, pretty. I can fake being smart.”

Only the really stupid think you can fake being smart.

Nothing has prepared you to live under Trump 2 as much as growing up in 1980s/90s Latin America. It was exactly like that! The sudden announcements changing everything, the overwhelming uncertainty, the sheer vertigo and whiplash. Plus, the sense that democracy is fragile and could collapse...

A teacher in Idaho has been told to remove posters reading "Everyone is welcome here" - specifically because it features different skin tones. As I wrote last week, this is a global political movement that has explicitly set the goal of eradicating the very concept of equality.
West Ada teacher stands firm after she’s told to remove ‘Everyone is welcome here’ signs
Sarah Inama said she was told by administrators that her signs “don’t allow people to express differing opinions.”

Starmer’s delicate footsie with Trump over Ukraine and Canada has costs. At some point the policy of funding aid to Ukraine and European self defence has to be sold to the public.

We are where we are - Trump always wanted normalisation with Russia and to end, or severe cuts, to US support for Ukraine's security. There had been no sign that European diplomacy was changing those goals before the meeting with Zelensky. Europe is not suddenly on its own - it already was.

To be honest, if it wasn't for Bluesky I'd barely have a clue what's going on with Musk's coup. Twitter has spent so long driving the news agenda that, combined with a collectively supine US media, I doubt many people are even aware of what's happening let alone the scale of it.
