Oh f**k right off

Stoked that our new Health Minister is going to be a dude who started an anti-abortion club while at Uni. #MaytheLordOpen

“Milestone”? F**k this thing is taking longer than an Air New Zealand safety video…

Shout out to all the "well actually, I think you'll find the specials aren't going to go that way this time" experts.

They should give it to Winston, for so many reasons, not least of all his new constituency that need to be shown the earth is round...
Is it just me desperate to hear who is going to be the first Space Minister?

Going back to the polls wouldn’t be the worst thing. At least I could rethink giving my electorate vote to Helen “sorry what’s your name? Amelia?” White, and I’m already working on the person in my family I’ll simply refer to as “Mum” regarding her giving Winston the tick 🤨

The aliens running our simulation have finally discovered they can just get AI to generate the plot. Quick, count how many fingers they've got.
The 90s have officially ended

Hey NZ folks, I'm still on the lookout for a new role! If you need (or know someone who needs) a person with experience in building environmental measurement frameworks, scientific research, and communicating science in the startup space...let's chat! Or a boost to your networks is appreciated too.

Can one not post video here? Given what I do for a living (and enjoy mucking around with the rest of the time) that might be a dealbreaker… ☹️

I just heard Luxon saying "we listened to the people who are struggling with high interest rates"... can't wait for that to be sorted on Monday, along with inflation...then we should let the rest of the world know how to do it too.

My Mum just called to tell me that Chris Hipkins has just come out in his concession speech. That wasn't on my election night bingo card. Turns out my uncle heard the words "partner" and "Tony" and made several huge leaps of boomer logic 😆

The young waiter at the restaurant where we’re having my Aunt’s 70th saw me watching the election, and excitedly asked who I voted for. When I told her, she screwed up her face and said “Really???” with a mix of surprise and disgust 🤣 It’s her first election, so I forgive her misplaced enthusiasm.

Just realised I meant deputy-leader not co-leader. This is not an election tweet but N****a W****s should fire whoever that photographer was, it's a total shocker (speaking as someone who works in this space).
No, although there is one co-leader's photo plastered on billboards which every time I see it think the photographer should be fired for letting someone look that sweaty, shiny and greasy on a nationwide campaign.

Just workshopping some tweets for later on... literarally speaking, is it an oxymoron to call someone both decrepit AND a cockroach? Or are cockroaches somehow youthful in their resilience?

How many of you are doing your voting today, on the actual Election Day? I am, but thanks to Advance Voting I feel (once again, nothing new here) like I'm the procrastinating kid leaving my important assignment til the 11th hour.

Well I don't know where everyone else is watching Election Night, but...

I remind people to not worry because the plane can survive turbulence strong enough to kill passengers.

Exactly zero people have been reassured by this comment.

The thing Luxon got wrong with the KFC tweet is that normal actual humans I know don't post photos eating KFC, like we do it but it's a secret shame thing we blame on hangovers or 'the kids wanted it'. Another great example of Sports Watching Meal.

@bevanweir.bsky.social I just sent you an email (but see you’re on leave) about some free scicom/media training sessions for jnr/mid researchers - one in Auck next Wed if you have anyone at MW you wanted to suggest or shoulder tap. We have a few free places still. Being hosted at PFR.

Driving from Dunedin to Invercargill to interview Andrew Digby @digs.bsky.social and talk kākāpō for a new science series I'm making. I'm quite excited, mainly cos I can't shake this irrational idea that he just keeps a live one in his office for visitors to pet. I know, I said it was irrational.

The flight to Dunedin this morning was one of the roughest I've ever experienced, flung about like a rollercoaster. The poor young woman next to me was in tears, gripping to the seat. I'm unsure of the etiquette here - do you leave them to their private hell, or offer meaningless reassurance?

The toxicity surrounding this election campaign is really turning me off. I'm a political animal and yet I've barely watched a minute of debate or interviews in the past weeks. I'm certain it will be doing the same to a lot of people, and expect first time voters especially to have a v low turnout.

Ok thanks to @dimsie.bsky.social and a few others for the recommendation, these Mahiri Reds are as far away from floury as possible, actually quite tart in a good way.

We are getting to the time of year where apples start to be a bit hit and miss. Anyone got any intel on which varieties are less likely to be floury about now? Im talking Jazz, Gala, Envy etc - you can keep your Granny Smiths :)
