This is a great reminder that gardening edible plants does not have to be only done in the warm seasons. Beets, Cabbage, Carrots and much more can still be planted and ready to eat by new years. A great way to stay productive and healthy. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
There are still a few edible plants that can go in the ground this season. Use this time in the garden to reflect on the past year and look forward to a new chapter. You will be grateful to see your homegrown food appear in the new year! gardeningsolutions.ifas.ufl.edu/infographics...

As a future health professional I would like to utilize science backed studies to recommend to patients. I think it is important that popular press articles are not spread without proper studies being conducted. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I think this is a great article as it reflects on how we can make healthy choices while still enjoying the holiday. The best tip I found was to eat slowly and enjoy the conversation. It's a holiday not a race. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I chose this source as it breaks down the dietary guidelines for each age group until 18 years old and is easy to read. Also it is written by a very credible source, Mayo Clinic. Lastly, it is up to date since it was posted in April #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Tom's story made me realize how important it is to understand where the client is coming from. Sometimes there feelings can be hurt, such as when Tom saw 360 in the scale. In the future, I would remember to stay patient and provide constant motivation to the client. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I agree that while medications like Ozempic can help lose weight for obese individuals, it is important to remember lifestyle changes (diet, physical activity, behaviours) remain critical. This is in order to obtain healthy outcomes. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

One thing I learned this week is that "Children who are overweight or obese as preschoolers are 5 times more likely ... to be overweight or obese as adults." I hadn’t realized this before and believe we should kindly encourage obese children to choose healthier options.

I relate to the barrier where I am influenced from the unhealthy diet of friends and family. My family cooks lots of food which are high in fat and oil, they then say insist I eat more because I am young. With friends, I always eat wherever everyone agrees to go. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I think this post brings awareness to the fact that you should research what supplements you take. Some people may take something without knowing the context of when you should take. For example, fish oil will most likely help with memory if you are deficient. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I agree with this because while we we focused on fad diets this week, it is important to remember that balance is key. If we focus too much in one area such as dieting, our bodies can be affected negatively. Factors like sleep and exercise are also important for health. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
Health is not only about workouts or diets. It is also how stress, sleep, and daily habits are managed. Self-care is keeping the body and mind in balance so there is energy left for what matters most. #RealWorldNutrition #HealthTips

I think this chart shows how anyone can have a nutrient dense diet no matter what foods you eat. It's interesting to see what nutrients different food contain. For example, you can get protein from something as small as peas and nuts. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Typically for breakfast I eat a hard boiled egg and a glass of milk. I could add a whole grain toast to incorporate carbs into my diet as well as a banana for fiber/vitamin C. I think I could use some more protein by eating a bowl of yogurt as well. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

This week we learned about digestion and a little about BMI. Moderation is very important in everything, but especially when it comes to our bodies. Obesity can lead to fatal issues, which is why it is important to monitor our food intake and know what we are putting in our bodies. #beh353
Obesity rates have climbed from 15% in 1980 to over 42% today. Food matters, but so do portion sizes, less activity, and lifestyle shifts. I dig into the bigger picture in my new blog, Rising Obesity Rates & Sedentary Lifestyles: www.shelleyrael.com/blog/obesity...

I think for the most part I was accurate. The hard part for me was knowing exactly how much honey mustard I put on my sandwich or the amount of black pepper I used on eggs. I was surprised by the amount of chocolate I ate in 1 day but everything else was as expected. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

In the lecture from this week, we learned vitamin c is water soluble and participates in energy metabolism. Peaches contain fiber as well which feeds gut bacteria and reduces cholesterol. Both can be found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
A medium peach has around 60 calories, vitamin C, and 2 grams of fiber. Eat the skin for extra antioxidants. Nutritious, simple, and portable. Enjoy the fresh peach season, but don't worry, frozen ones are great too, so if you have too many...freeze them. #RealWorldNutrition

A fun fact I learned is that carbohydrates are the quickest macronutrient that our body can break down, making it a fast way to fuel ourselves. On the other hand, macronutrients like fats or proteins take a much longer time to be broken down. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I think the importance of sleep is often overlooked. I notice when I have early classes in the morning and did not get sufficient sleep the night before, it makes an impact on the knowledge I am able to retain. My question is, what are the longterm effects of not getting enough sleep over time?
Sleep is often overlooked in health, but it affects energy, appetite, and even blood sugar regulation. Adults need 7–9 hours per night. Consistent sleep schedules, limiting late caffeine, and reducing screen time before bed make a big difference. #RealWorldNutrition
