Join us (and the neighbours of Haus 17, Lausitzer Platz) for the Open Mic Situation this evening from 19:00.
It's basically a blind date with the neighbourhood's creative side.
Hosted by my good self and as is tradition, I've prepared some word-salads for the occasion.

🧵 Polari latest | Controversial Irish author, & anti-trans activist, claims there is ‘no such thing as LGBTQ+ & that there are just individuals.

This is historically & factually incorrect. It leans into the false conspiracy that you can separate trans ppl from the rest of the Queer community [1]

An excellent point here, and some great follow-up discussion in the replies.

When I was head of buying at Waterstones, and subsequently as a consultant for some independent publishers, I always argued against the basic uniform cover approach.

I had reasons...
Very sad to report that, as shown to me by @aliyav.bsky.social , Tilted Axis have joined Fitzcarraldo, Penguin and And Other Stories in the Boring French-Style Covers Club.

The old style maintained a clear and attractive series identity while also allowing individual character for each book.

This photograph should haunt you for the rest of your life.

You will never scrub the shame away. No future achievement, however great, will ever erase what you helped inflict on Gaza.

Tonight!
‘An Illustrated Book of Pointless Movie Facts’ is the new book written and illustrated by Irish artist John Rooney.
Do you know which actors were originally supposed to play the Ghostbusters? Or which film first showed a toilet flushing on screen? Of course you don’t, you have a life.

We are transgressing the laws of physics again today and existing in two places at once.
You can find Órla at Stand H12 at the Berliner Bücherfest until 19:00 (and again tomorrow) and Dave is in the shop as usual until 18:00.

This evening's event with Gregor Hens is sold out. If you didn't manage to book a (free) ticket, we will operate a waiting list, in case of no-shows. We'll also set up a speaker outside, so people can listen out in the fresh air of Lausitzer Platz.

That's wonderful news, and culturally healthy. (Kids in Britain are still expected to slog through 'An Inspector Calls' and 'Animal Farm' which are both excellent, but still....)
Isn't this just the best news.
