very funny that we've spent like two decades in a media environment where fictional depictions of villain are expected to be nuanced and have complex motives and then the country gets taken over by people who are like "hurting people makes me feel like a big strong man :)"

i am reminded of when matt stoller lost his mind over this column, and saw it as evidence of my “pro-corporate” bias. he literally could not grasp the idea that the smallness of a business does not necessarily alter its relationship to production or to the workers it employs

“Integrity” is a deeply polysemic word. It can mean “holding your principles” but it can also mean “being whole, feeling like yourself.” These execs are discovering they can acquiesce and still feel like themselves…bc our society’s worship of the market uber alles has created these selves.
