#OtD 30 Dec 1936 the great GM sitdown strike in Flint, MI, began with a wildcat strike of 50 workers against transfer of 3 inspectors. Workers occupied the plant until February, winning union recognition and decisively changing the balance of power. More: shop.workingclasshistory.com/products/str...

ok actually the worst thing is that all the pesto i made and froze in little muffin tin pucks this year is up in this freezer instead of the chest freezer downstairs so i’m gonna have to pitch that. gutted
like i mean congratulations but if I don’t get electricity before noon or so (generously) i’m gonna have to throw out everything in the fridge for the fourth time this year

i don’t think it’s how they intended it to be viewed but DTE’s outage tracker map label that claims 90% of customers still have power is more like rubbing your face in it than reassuring me of their competence

and the dot of authoritarian tide
academia as we know it is in the process of being dismantled and not enough people are connecting the dots between the anti-education legislation coming out of the red states, the consolidation of power in regents and presidents, and the systematic defunding of humanities departments
UW-Milwaukee will lay off nearly three dozen faculty, using the provisions of the decade-old law eliminating tenure.

Proud to publish Mansoor Adayfi’s eulogy for his friend Emad Hassan, who died last week, in part because of injuries he sustained from US torture at Guantanamo Bay. Emad was an innocent man who happened to come from a town in Yemen with the unfortunate name “Al-Qaidah.”

i think i would have been a much happier historian if i had focused on any period before the 1960s so there would be no expectation of my doing oral histories. i do not like speaking to people and i don’t find them worthwhile for the kind of history i do and yet i must do them anyway

i think it’s good on a rhetorical level for the left to join in on the popular front vibes but i also don’t see any indication that another dem president is going to meaningfully disrupt the neoliberal order, which means that the fascists will always be on the horizon

the thing about “obamaism forever bidenism was a mistake” is that there is a strong case that trump was the direct product of the original sin of the obama administration — a too-small stimulus leading to an anemic recovery and stagnant labor market for the first half of the 2010s

this is from today. i'm the first person to insist on pragmatism and realistic expectations in politics but if you're confused about the intractability of pro-Palestine activists while the bombs are still dropping you're also confused about what all of that is for
