In short, none of this is normal and they're all dealing with it in their own ways. But most all all, these folks are afraid of this loose cannon of a woman who killed 11M people just by yelling at them. But it feels like a criticism of American "rugged individualism" rather than a celebration of it

Everyone seems to be dealing with the grief in their own ways- particularly by acknowledging their family are still their family despite being part of a worldwide whole. None of them are normal and they are all dealing with "the end of the world as they know it" but we're only seeing one take on it.

Yep.The entire point of that scene is that she's the self-centered individualist idiot. Thinking she's somehow seen as the hero fighting for free will misses that the show is proposing "what if that's a good thing, actually" and our protagonist is too caught up in her own shit to think about it.

Yeah. The Wagyu is Wagyu chuck, so both tender and fatty as hell, but also cheap, as most foodies don't think to buy tougher Wagyu cuts.

That's what has me curious - where they are taking this idea and what they want to say about it while doing it.

Oh, see, I'm seeing it less as a Body Snatchers riff and more of a I AM LEGEND riff, in which the vampires are unmistakably the next evolution of man and the protagonist is left figuring out how to live as a dead clade walking.

I'd hold judgement on that last part, as we still don't have a definitive answer to things like motive and personal experience. We know they are harmed by aggression, so this feels like a very subtle, subversive setup for a deeper answer to that question and a statement on sexual violence itself.

I would argue yes. That opening quite literally explained SO MUCH about their actual capabilities and the lengths to which they can and will go to keep the deviants happy.
