I have seen 488.250 games on http://itch.io out of 1.294.515 (37.71%)

Who am I? Short summary.

I’m like a games journalist, but honest. I review indie games and promote new, interesting ideas in games.

I’m currently doing a challenge to review all 1.285.600 games on itch_io (counter in my bio).

Games = Art. I want to show and prove it.

Nice to meet you.
The Walking Dead = Visual Novel

This game is a visual novel because of:

- Choice-based gameplay
- Branching plot depending on your choices
- Emphasis on developing relationships with characters

But also it has:

- Video instead of images
- Quick-time events
- Time-limited decision-making

Thread: How to make a game trailer people watch on repeat?

Shot‑by‑shot breakdown of "Total War: Rome II - Wraith of Sparta" trailer

I will explore how to immerse the player in the events in just 1.5 minutes. Evoke genuine empathy for the participants, and interest in the action ahead.

#100 UNDERTALE 2

I love everything about this game. The game design, the minigames, the length, the characters. It has so much content.

There are so many jokes and references, you can't even imagine.

Game of the Millennium!!!

Itch.io Christmas Legend - "Where is my 20xx?"

Games where Santa hunts for the New Year (2009–2022).

Dark, clever puzzles with a pleasantly atmosphere that became important within the #itchio community.

I recommend them if you're lacking New Year's spirit.

So. Where is 2025?

SOUTH PARK > Expedition 33

A thread in which I'll scientifically prove why "South Park:The Stick of Truth" is 6.7x better than Expedition 33 in:

- Combat
- Audio
- Story
- Visuals
- Leveling branches
- Character charisma

(Everything said below is just a joke from crazy author)

I don't understand Expedition 33.

A record number of awards should indicate exceptional quality.

But Expedition 33 is simply a good game, not legendary.

It loses to many other titles that haven't won such awards

I want to understand. Is Expedition 33 a legendary masterpiece and why?

Thread: How to #artdesign

Art design often decides whether a player gives your game a chance.

Using four games as examples, I'll show different approaches, note important details and suggest ideas you can apply to your game.

Can you guess these games from the images?

After reviewing over 200.000 games on itch_io, I learned how important a game's preview image is.

- Preview = Clicks
- Clicks = Downloads
- Downloads = Future Success

Simple test: Paste your game's image into the preview frame and ask random people which 3 games they'd choose.

Found an early build of Battle Brothers from 2014!
Rating 4★ (1 review)

I was one of the first fans of this game.

Almost cried seeing that old UI and the familiar faces of the characters.

Thank you, OverhypeStudios. This game will always have my heart.

Nobody treats indie developers more warmly than gamers

Appreciate gamers advice, even if it seems unrealistic or hard to implement. Value their desire to help and get involved

People who say "Gamedevs are lazy" or "Gamers have aggressive, unreasonable demands" are toxic

Gamers+Gamedevs=❤️

This is an example of a very simple yet complex mechanic in games.

A good game-design decision.
adding new skills to the skilltree and you can get ridiculously overpowered manual hits in

In the #gamedev world, is the destiny of developers controlled by some transcendental #wishlist algorithm or a great game idea?

Is it like the hand of #Gabe hovering above? At least it is true that player has no control; even over his own #games library.

Stop. I noticed something strange about Bluesky:

- No premium full-screen paywall every 20 seconds?
- Customizable recommendation system?
- A lively, active community?
