Great showing of Much Ado About Nothing at Chicago Shakespeare Theater tonight. Well-delivered, some great physical comedy and crowd work and even a few very good silences. Plus live music. All in all a great few hours of a break from things.

I don’t have kids, but I hit 40 this year and seem to have fallen into the same mindset.

That or some cold reenactments broken and now I just think I can solve every problem with more layers of wool.

Semi-anarchist Belter faction from The Expanse. I did up a batch with the same logo Ashford is wearing in this image.

If you have not seen The Expanse, or read it, and you have enjoyed hard sci fi, it’s both an excellent TV series and an excellent book series.

Look at this. Wookiepedia, as with all the Fandom.net sites, is usually nigh-unusable. Now it’s like… normal! Useful, legible, not jumping around because of ads fighting for space. Madness.

Hanging up the tent and its ground cloth to get them cleaned up a bit, now that the canvas has made it back from where I dropped it in New York.

I think this is. 15’x10’ or so. Usable space is less because you can see how relatively short the ridge pole is, maybe 4, so there’s a lot of sloping.

Have some Chicago west bound sunsets at … 1625 or so. Ah, November.

Had the absolute privilege to be a challenger in our guild’s prize fight today. All three of the prizors I challenged were great folks and delivered excellent fights, and I feel I did my job to bring good fights out of them. A blast, but exhausting. Brought my cloak for extra drama, & warmth sitting

Optimistically ripped my gauntlets down for some repairs the day before I really need them. But I really needed to fix them before tomorrow so no two ways about it. I love the patching machine for patching up the palms of the gloves!

Good day for a guac egg salad sandwich and a manzanita latte at Back of the Yards Coffee.

Way the fuck out of my way, but nice to visit, since they just popped in the local news.

Not the location they had when I dropped by ages ago (pre-pandemic I think?). I think that’s their office. Still nice.

Oh yeah? Burned myself like three times tonight. But only the forge scale blistered.

Still, here’s the finished good.

Back at it. Round two going better as I’m fresh from last time and my errors then.

Alas his schedule now runs through the weekend as he seems to be flying to Kuala Lumpur

This took forever because I’m rusty and it took a while to realize I was using some of the limited tools wrong. Well. I got there eventually. Not having punches & drifts in the small sizes I use is part of the problem. Oh well.

This grabs the handles of a Dutch oven. A strap connects a pair.

Fried some chicken because I’m still working through an insane amount of chicken I got ages ago. And because I had some karaage over the weekend and it’s stuck with me.

Pretty tasty. Wouldn’t want to make a habit of it. Pleased I can wing it.

Also some dumplings made from leftover batter.

Another drive done. A little charging wait this time, but not bad. Chose my charging stops to have stuff I wanted to do (use the head, buy cheese).

Rain all morning means the bakery had a lot of bread left close to closing, despite apparently some dedicated bread buyers earlier. So they were BOGO with added freebies. This was all $20. Best day ever.

(Blue Oven Bakery in Findlay Market in Cincinnati.)

Missing the first 20 or 30 minutes of driving when I set out initially, but still, here’s the accumulated info from my great triangle trip from Chicagoland to Toronto & Rural Ontario, down through Upstate New York, to DC, and then back home, in like 13 days.

2107mi in 42.75h, an average of 49.3mph.

I’d have set off sooner but there was a lot of packing required.

And eventually I have to go back to the Rochester area for the tent I left there.

Children are afraid to play outside… err. No they’re playing soccer on the capitol lawn. Huh.

A plant-based cafe! They can’t even afford meat here. I must have gotten the last beef in the city in my short ribs!

Clearly the city is suffering
