Especially as the global effects of El Niño have faded, global temperatures have come down in the 12-month running mean perspective. Unfortunately, this is only temporary, and the long-term trend remains clearly upwards.

Similar to May, large temperature anomalies were found around the Antarctic Peninsula in June 2025, though with substantial regional variations across the continent too. These departures were >5°C higher than the 1981-2010 reference period.

South Africa has one of the world's dirtiest power grids - it's dominated by old coal plants built during the Apartheid era (and some new but problematic coal plants).

But things are starting to change. December was the best month ever for solar (12% of the mix). That sent coal's share down to 77%.

It’s important to know that a lot of productive activity is happening in person and offline, too.

Not all of it can be broadcast online, but we’ve had hundreds of people showing up to our trainings, mobilizations, and more.

Keep going. Tyranny is eroded by a sea of small acts. Everything matters.

A gentle reminder that if we miss the 1.5°C target (and we certainly will), the next target is 1.51°C and not 2°C. We need to keep fighting.

Every tonne of CO₂ emitted makes the job of future CO₂ removal harder, and every 0.01°C of temperature increase makes the world more chaotic and dangerous.

No, the world has not breached the 1.5C global warming target.

It’s a climate target - which means it’s an average that must be sustained over at least a decade.

We currently sit at 1.2 C. Which is already very bad.

The science is clear: every bit of warming matters, every action matters.
