It’s been really difficult to get the MH field to see how risk-benefit ratios change when interventions initially developed for higher acuity clinical contexts are subsequently implemented in lower acuity settings.
Most recently, @jackandrews.bsky.social and I have written this commentary, arguing that we think the evidence is now sufficiently good that we should stop doing universal MH interventions in schools. We focus on those that teach therapeutic concepts eg CBT, mindfulness

A good study that shows what many teachers have been experiencing for a long time – even before the pandemic: an onslaught of education technology that just made our administrative load worse.
Technology is supposed to decrease teacher burnout – but we found it can sometimes make it worse
Efforts to simplify teachers’ jobs through technology can backfire without a strong focus on teacher well-being.

The obsession of grant reviewers with “innovation” and “impact” directly impedes advances in MH/psych treatments. If you propose to take a good tx and improve it somehow, reviewers will unfailingly say “so what?” or “why bother?” As a result, we end up with lots of ok but not great txs.

does anybody else just randomly reinvent things? Like right now I was thinking about an invention that could be a “co-work” space but with barrier separation between the co-work stations so you would be shielded from noise and have privacy. AKA an office

This is scary, a well-powered (N>500) study of DBT as universal prevention finds evidence for iatrogenic effects :/

🗣️This craft project didn’t use a hammer. Is this craft even good? Hammers are really useful tools to create high quality crafts! There’s really no excuse to ever build a craft without using a hammer.

I wish this didn't need spelled out but what I said above isn't "against preregisteration". Acknowledging the limitations of a tool isn't the same as being against the tool. Pushing back against misuse isn't the same as pushing back against use. This conflation is misguided and harmful.

I’m incredibly grateful to the gun owners who volunteered for this study. Most would not enroll because they were afraid we’d take their guns away but enough trusted us sufficiently (overwhelmingly veterans and LEOs) to volunteer. I can’t express my appreciation enough to them.
