Hi, new here.
Moving from, well, you-know-where. Hoping to reconnect with people from there.
I work in mental health in the NHS.
Cautiously excited about being able to engage more with others, but may share less personal stuff as this account isn’t locked.

Every time politicians mention dodgy Covid contracts it's to point out the amount of taxpayers ££ wasted. Fine, but these faulty PPE deals also cost the lives of literally hundreds of health/care staff. This never gets an utterance. Lost cash is not the most important consequence of this corruption.

I went to donate blood recently and apparently my iron (haemoglobin) levels are low. That could explain a lot…!

Capitalization affects how people read hashtags or how people hear them on screen readers. Use #camelCase or #PascalCase in hashtags instead of lowercase. You could have #DoctorWhoRewatch ("Doctor Who Rewatch") or #doctorwhorewatch ("doctor whore watch.")

My therapist recently asked me where the slack was in the work system…. It was so hard not to laugh at how ridiculous that question feels when there is less than zero slack in the system. We all have too much work all the time.

*Sigh*
I was planning to change to a heat pump when my boiler gives up, but I won’t be able to afford to if this prediction is accurate.
Oh well.

Went to parkrun this morning. They play music before the start most weeks.
I forgot it was Halloween. Apparently my nervous system is way too activated for Halloween music with screams (especially at the exact moment I walked past the speaker 😳)

Many trauma survivors pride ourselves on being particularly independent, & we are-- but scratch the surface, & that independence often comes w/ a side order of fear & resentment that we can't depend on others & had to figure things out growing up we should have had support with.

I’m feeling uneasy about a work-related offer that I’ve been given. On the surface it looks great, but I’m not sure about it.
There’s a lot of stuff around how the offer came about that I’m finding difficult/triggering.
It’s a great offer so I’m also worried that if I voice my reservations, or 1/

A rock band that I’m a casual fan of (only found them this year) are doing a gig nearby soon. I’m tempted to go, but I’ve never been to a rock concert before & would be going on my own (been to plenty of other concerts on my own).
What are rock concerts like? Would I be ok going by myself?

For 3 years at 16, I had the joy of working with about fifty 80 - and 90 year olds at a national charity. It shaped my entire way of living and working. Here are some you might want to know that you probably don't see alot on here.

A thread 🧵 from my friends since past.

When creating PDFs, avoid using "Print to PDF." A screen reader user may still be able to access the text of PDFs created this way, but heading structure, alternative text, and any other tag structure will be lost. Using "Save As" or "Export" can preserve these tags.

Today I offer a reminder of the word ‘forswunk’ (13th century): exhausted from too much work. To be ‘foreswunk’ (my own version) is to be exhausted before you even begin.

Do we really need to do research specifically on women's health?

The REBOOT trial finds beta-blockers - a standard therapy for heart attacks - causes harm in women, but not men.

Yes.

The answer is yes.

One of the biggest practical challenges many adult trauma survivors face is that recovery is really hard without adequate support-- but our experiences have made it difficult to relate to many people, & our inner circle is often limited to, like, two other people & some animals.

I had the job interview. Not going to hear the outcome until next week.
I know I can do the job, but I don’t know if I will have done well enough in the interview to get the job 😕 (of course I’m picking my performance apart…)

I loved closing all the tabs I had open for interview prep though!

Interesting that less than 50% of those surveyed think doctors ‘contribute a great deal to society’… 🤷‍♀️
🧵/ There's a clear correlation between how much a job is seen as contributing to society and whether or not the public think it is over- or underpaid

For instance, 75% of Britons see nurses as contributing a great deal to society and 74% say they're underpaid

I’ve got a job interview soon. For a job that is basically the same as one I’ve done before.
The imposter syndrome is STRONG!
I know nothing. They’ll totally know I’ve just been blagging it for my whole career. I’m definitely not going to get the job (so there’s no point doing any preparation…) 😩🫣

You are not a piece of sh*t.

Not that anyone reading this needed that reminder right now, right? Because we wouldn't dare be quietly calling ourselves names & mentally listing our flaws right now, right? Right?

Scratch the record.
