the list is updated by the way. 7 is good, it turns out.
- the opening midgar section is by far the strongest part of the game
- materia is fun (except when you have to re-equip it all cuz a party member left temporarily)

oh i forgot one of my x-2 thoughts:
if it used x/tactics’s turn system instead of atb i think its battle system would be the best in the series. if spherechanges were like as fast as Average FFX Hasted Rikku Cooldown i’d want to try using gates way more. but instead they are slow :(

they should add sphere break to ffxiv
another one down. ffx was hard to rank because sometimes its incredible and sometimes its a complete slog. maybe it'll get bumped up above ff9 after i think about it more, idk; i think it has higher highs than ff9 but didnt have to capture monsters in ff9 so that goes a long way.

having now finished za, i think it's easily the most polished game they've released in the switch era, but it's also the least fun i've had with a pokemon game, like, ever. a very real example of the difference between a good game (technical polish) and a good game (mechanics).

in my three hours of plza so far ive done one fight where ive Seen the Vision for the battle system but for the most part the lack of precise positioning makes it feel like “what if mmo combat was uninteresting” to me
i like playing super mario for all the screws though

THE LIST IS UPDATED
almost put FFT 2nd, but some of the balance issues drop it a tick for me. still difficult for me to put stuff above XIV because of just how much nostalgia i have for ARR.
it's absolutely the most consistently quality story in the series so far, though, other than maaaybe shb.

i am still slowly playing through ffx, here are my thoughts at the middle (?) of the game:
- despite having fun whenever i play it, i am not as hyperfocused on this as i was for ff9.
- i totally get how you would play this in 2001 and go 'this is the greatest videogame of all time'

i am still slowly playing through ffx, here are my thoughts at the middle (?) of the game:

it does very much annoy me how many times this game is like 'all we can do is wait' and then you talk to everyone around you and they go 'stop being an adhd nightmare tidus and sit still' and then it turns out you actually do need to move to a cutscene trigger???
