Finally finished reading the USCO's latest report on #Copyright and #GAI. Unpopular opinion? I don't see how it is controversial. At its base, they assert #fairuse must be determined on a case by case basis rather than being a blanket defense...which is the norm. Thoughts?

The UK government has passed the Data (Use and Access) Bill, without an amendment publishers and artists had fought for which would have protected their ability to enforce copyright law on their IP.

An apparent win for Big Tech, at the expense of creatives.

For the first time, a major studio has sued an AI photo generating site - in this case, Midjourney - for copyright infringement, claiming it to be “a bottomless pit of plagiarism”.

It’s no surprise that studio is Disney. But interestingly, Universal has joined them. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/11/b...

Alas, AI doesn’t “learn” as such, so I am going to be a “no” on this.

“Learning implies a kind of comprehension and relationship to facts that eludes machines, regardless of sophistication. Learning involves non-computational abstraction.”

-every book published in the country,
-all copyright information, and
-the records of every single act of legislation in the country's history,
that is a five-alarm fire for incoming dictatorship.
