Incidentally, I’m writing this just before driving off to see a 12-year-old client who’s desperately trying to overcome longstanding school trauma, because he spent so long changing his behaviours for teachers who expected him to act like he was fine.

I have always loved public libraries, but having young children has exponentially increased my gratitude and sense of indebtedness to them. Our local library is such a huge part of our lives. The books, the programming, the very intentionally curated kids’ section. It’s all such a gift.

Before I knew about my ADHD, people constantly asked (often in exasperation) why I thought or acted the way I did.
They couldn’t accept that I didn’t know either, so I gave random answers to see what was acceptable enough.

I hate the diagnosis centric view of mental health. First, stigma. Secondly, classism and affordability.
However, personally if I self diagnose as anxious, but it turns out I had autism that doesn’t change the reality I needed help. Empathy for people struggling is better than demanding a label

Someone told me this about procrastination: accept it as part of the creative process because without it we wouldn't able to get the result we actually get. While procrastinating we (subconsciously) think about the piece and its process and that's actually very productive in it's own way.
