Since this part of history isn't that widely known:

At the outbreak of WW2, the Norwegian merchant fleet was the 4th largest in the world, including 19% of the world's tanker tonnage, with overall a high share of new and modern ships.
Not everyone experienced the elation of liberation.

Crewmen of the Norwegian merchant fleet, our most important contribution to Allied victory, trickled home long after the parties, to a country that didn't understand nor recognize their sacrifices until too many decades later.

Today marks 80 years since Norway was liberated – after five years of brutal occupation. Since then, we have enjoyed a free and democratic Norway, and perhaps we have taken it somewhat for granted. Today, on Liberation and Veterans Day, we appreciate those who fought for our freedom. Thank you.
