I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy.

I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

CNN showed the NYPD last night - LIVE - threatening to arrest protesters if they didn’t disperse.

Now the Mayor says - again on CNN - that they only arrest ppl (86 last night) who are violent and destructive.

They don’t even bother to keep the story straight. Disgusting if not surprising.

Nearly three years before the Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on George Floyd as he cried that he couldn’t breathe, Zoya Code found herself in a similar position: handcuffed facedown on the ground, with Chauvin’s knee on her. Code said she began pleading: “Don’t kill me.”

Journalists at mainstream US publications are absolutely allowed to engage in activism as long as it is aimed at reinforcing existing hierarchies and undermining progressive change. NYT news reporters recently engaged in a startlingly effective campaign against trans rights, for example.
This isn't meant to be a dunk, but I'm genuinely surprised when people don't understand that journalists generally cannot take part in activism if they want to be taken seriously as journalists
