This thread made me happy.
Dear #skystorians, here is a cool story of a very big cannon experiment of the 1680s in Europe. A 🧵 about the idea of transporting people in cannon balls ...

Ferdinand Zecca visualized pedal-powered personal airships as the future of air travel in CONQUERING THE SKIES (1901), one of the earliest science fiction films ever made.

Some of y’all are “technically, methanol and H₂S can combine on a tungsten catalyst to make dimethyl sulfide.”

But my question is whether we’re calling it Atlantea or Kelparis. K2-18b will not stand.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

Journalists should be insistently pointing out that tariffs are controlled by Congress, and they can revoke the President’s authority over them—and lots of other things!—the moment they grow a spine.

The abject gutlessness of Republican legislators is the real story here.

Republicans in Congress could make all of this stop. They have voluntarily ceded their constitutional authority over tariff policy. Trump is operating under emergency powers. They could stop this today. All of it.

Probably no one is waking up in the middle of the night lately paralysed with anxiety, but just in case here's a mind-calming technique.
OK I’ve been sick all week &
I have a great tip to share with everybody. This tip has worked for me this week on nights through sore throat & white-noise-in-body-feeling. & it worked last year on nights when I was paralysed with anxiety.

Martin calls it “goldfish citadel” which is pretty perfect.

"Why did you choose that major, or that college?" None of us really know; we're different people now and have to do historical reconstruction to guess. Also the towns we lived in have been replaced by different towns. Nothing from our past survives except the constellations overhead.
